Learning to live in the moment main image of a sunset.

Learning to live in the moment is a skill that helps in so many aspects of life. From an early age, men are taught to show their masculine side and fear their feminine side. This can often lead to men feeling out-of-touch with their inner self, which can also lead to feeling a disconnect from the outside world.

Taking a second to slow down and live in the moment is beneficial to anyone and everyone, but men can find this extremely helpful when they find it difficult to express emotion or find joy in life. It may seem like an easy task, but it can take some dedication for those that have been closed-minded up to this point.

When you focus too much on the past or are too concerned with the future, you will almost never leave time to enjoy the present. When the past has consumed your life, you will always feel like you’ve under-achieved in life. On the other hand, focusing on the future can lead to always feeling like you’re too far behind.

Living in the moment can bring a lot of benefits to your everyday routine and it’s something that can be started immediately. Feeling stuck doesn’t have to be a way of life anymore, free yourself and find the beauty in what’s happening right now

The only moment you should live for is this moment, everytime.

As you begin this journey, here are a few tips and tricks that can help you find the inner joy quicker.

Say Goodbye to Unneeded Possessions

In a society infatuated with a materialistic lifestyle, we often get caught up in the things we own and forget about our most prized possessions — our body, mind, and spirit.

Think about the things you own, chances are you have a lot of memories attached to those possessions. Whether good or bad, we like to hold onto these items because it allows us to reminisce about those moments.

This is understandable, but that’s what our memory is for. By holding onto these materials, you give the past power over your present. By removing these from your possession, you can start to see the beauty in every moment.

Observe Yourself, Observe the World

We often allow outside factors to take away from our quality of life, simply by removing us from the present and distancing ourselves from, well, ourselves.

I think a prime example of this is the technology we hold in our palms daily — the cell phone. This little device can create so much turmoil in your life without you even knowing it. Think of all the times you’ve been outside waiting for an Uber, having a nice meal outside, or just at home on a day off. I bet you’re on your phone for most of those moments.

Learning to take a step back and enjoy the wide arrange of sights, sounds, smells, emotions, sorrow, and triumph that each day has to offer can improve the quality of your daily routine

Don’t Stop Dreaming, But Work Harder Today

Learning to live in the moment doesn’t mean entirely forgetting the past or giving up on the future. It’s just changing your mindset and how you view your past and future.

Many people will see success or failure in their past, thinking it defines who they are today or who they’ll be tomorrow. In reality, your past is a result of what you’ve done, not what you’re doing or will do. On the other hand, your future isn’t a result of your past — it’s a result of your present.

When you understand that everything you did yesterday made you who you are today, and everything you do today will make you who you are tomorrow, you’ll start to learn the importance of living in the moment.
